External Compliance Officer
An external compliance officer differs from the internal compliance officer in one very important factor: they are objective and have had no previous engagement with the business, owners or employees. The external compliance officer has had no relations within the organisation and hence, no previous records of confrontations which may impair their judgement.
The views and opinions of an external compliance officer at a court hearing carry more weight and are considered more credible than those of the internal compliance officer who is assumed to have an intent of keeping their job.
Usually, when deciding to appoint a compliance officer internally, the organisation, if it’s a medium-sized one, looks at forming a whole department considering there are over 11 000 regulations in the groundwork for maintenance. They have no such costs with the external compliance officer.
